Present Sounds from the Daily Past presents the relationship between the past and its interpretation in the face of an ongoing present. Visitors are invited to contribute to the creation of a musical performance of their daily lives, while seated in an office workstation. Actions commonly perceived as insignificant and mundane in an office environment are sampled with sensors, translated into an audiovisual experience of daily life; at times harmonious, while most of the time it develops into an immersive cacophony. Present Sounds from the Daily Past draws from methodologies of music, and questions how concepts such as repetition, sampling, and tracking can serve as material for spatial design and experience. The collection of daily routines repeated in the project allow for a new perspective stemming from the intersection between past and present.
