Fabrication is a multidisciplinary exhibition presenting six new works by six artists who participated in Studio of Her Own’s artist residency program. The works were recently created in collaboration with “Imra – The Jerusalem Sewing Shop,” a unique social enterprise that trains and employs young women in fashion. Imra is an eco-conscious initiative and uses “textile renewal” due to the ecological damage caused by the fashion industry. Most of the artists represented in the exhibition seldom work with textiles as part of their artistic practice, however, Imra allowed them to experience a wide range of techniques that link the works on display. Comprising installation, video, photography, sculpture and prints, the cooperation and dialogue with “Imra” influenced the issues that the artists chose to deal with through the works themselves, raising questions regarding representations of home, shelter, sustainability, and memory.
The artist residency program was made possible thanks to Mifal HaPais and the U.S. Embassy.
