The art of leather tanning is one of the oldest professions in human history. Since ancient times, man has studied the virtues of animal skins and learned to process them for a variety of needs and purposes: clothing; shelter; storage; and more. However, despite its multiple uses, animal skin does not last long, which is why leather objects are rarely discovered in archeological excavations. In ancient times, leather and pottery were often used to create everyday objects. Inspired by ancient pottery, Archaic Leather presents a series of urns that combine traditional craft with innovative technology, offering a contemporary and relevant interpretation of leather The project unfolds the story of healing fractures to produce a whole. The urns are manufactured using a smart and efficient molding system that enables the production of a rich variety of urns. The system is based on a traditional working technique, known as wet-forming, which enhances the leather’s natural feature to create three-dimensional works.
